These general fiction readers provide a gradual and structured start for children still learning how to read. The text in the first three books uses only decodable regular words made up from the first group of letter sounds.
Set 1: the three books only use words and sentences comprised of the first 6 sounds – s, a, t, i, p and n. The books are Ants, Tips and Snap.
Set 2: the three books only use words and sentences comprised of the first 12 sounds – s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, h, r, m and d. The books are Hen and Cats Picnic, Pet Picnic and Dad’s Red Tent.
Set 3: based on the first 18 sounds and the books are: Golf is not Fun, Brett's Dragon and Duck Gets Stuck.
Set 4: based on the first 24 sounds and the books are: Just a Storm, Red Jack's Fort and Jaiden's Lies.
Set 5: based on the first 30 sounds and the books are: A Hospital Visit, A Pong at oakwood Zoo and Seven Elves.
Set 6: based on the first 36 sounds and the books are: An Omlette for Lunch, Fox cub Stops yelling and A Boxfish in a Rush.
Set 7: based on all 42 sounds and the books are: Mervin's garden, Spoilsport and In the Attic.
So there are 3 books for each group of 6 sounds taught, up to 42 sounds and 21 Books in total.
A small number of tricky words are included in the final set of books.
Comprehension questions and discussion topics are provided at the end of
each book. Each book also includes guidance for teachers and parents.
Light type is used as a guide for those few letters that should not be
sounded out, such as the /b/ in lamb.
